Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents
What is a Super Visa?
Super Visa is a variant of Visitor Visa or Temporary Resident Visa, designed for parents and grandparents of Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada. Parents and grandparents get a longer single entry of up to 2 years if approved. It is possible to apply for an extension to stay in Canada before the 2 year term ends.
In most cases, they are approved for a multiple entry visa that can be valid for up to 10 years. Therefore, parents and grandparents may revisit Canada again after 1-2 years to live with their family for up to another 2 year limit. However, they will be allowed this extended stay entry only if they show documents to prove that they have a valid Canadian medical insurance coverage for at least one year amounting to $100,000CAD at the port of entry.
Dependants of parents cannot be included in this application. So, Citizens or Permanent Residents cannot add their siblings in this application.
Apart from the minimum requirements, your Canadian host has to prove the following:
- Your child or grandchild in Canada must meet the minimum income requirements as per the LICO threshold for that year, depending on the number of people in the family.
- Your child or grandchild can provide in writing that he or she will provide all financial support during your stay in Canada in the form of a statutory declaration or invitation letter
- Your child or grandchild must take a valid Canadian medical insurance coverage for at least one year amounting to CAD $ 100,000 for you.
Visitor Visa for Family Visit
If you have family or close friends living in Canada that you plan to visit, things that will be required in the application include:
- A letter of invitation from your host in Canada. This letter can be in the form of a statutory declaration.
- Financial support documents of host, to prove that they can support you while in Canada.
Tourist Visa

- A letter from your Canadian business clients or partners, outlining reason for travel and duration for stay
- Proof of financial capabilities to fund your trip and return to your home country.

What to Keep in Mind When Applying
While applying from outside Canada, an invitation is required from your Canadian host, for your application to be considered. The Visa Officer must also be satisfied that you are in compliance with the Canadian Immigration law, rules and regulations as well the following:
- You will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay
- Your ties to your home country
- You and your family in Canada has sufficient money to take care of you in Canada
- Relationship to your family in Canada
- Will remain law abiding and do not have any record of criminal activity
- Are not a risk to the security of Canada
- The overall economic and political stability of your home country
- Are not inadmissible to enter Canada
- Must be in good health (complete a medical exam upfront by a physician approved by Canadian Immigration authorities)
