Limited Time Left for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship
Author: Jagpreet Puri
Only 12 days are left to express your interest to sponsor your parents or grandparents for 2017’s intake. After Feb 2, 2017, Immigration authorities will randomly pick 10,000 applicants out of these online expressions of interest. If invited, you will have 90 days to send in the actual application.
Parents/grandparents sponsorship is a 2 stage process. In the first stage, eligibility of the sponsor is determined. If the sponsor is not found eligible, the application can still be sent to the concerned visa office for further consideration of PR application. However, keep in mind that this does not mean their application will be approved. There is a section within the application where we have to indicate whether the application should or should not be sent to concerned visa office, should you not meet eligibility to sponsor. If you do not want further processing, you get back $475 out of $550 paid as processing fee for sponsorship.
Income requirements of the sponsor is the main criteria to be eligible. However, there are many other points which can make you ineligible. You can check them out on the government website or contact us to find out more.
On another note, it is important that the parents/grandparents maintain good health for the next 2-4 years, so that they can clear medicals during the last leg of processing. They should not be inadmissible to enter Canada and also have police clearances from all the countries they have lived in after the age of 18 years, for more than 6 months.
Depending on the situation, we may also appeal the refusal of the application to the Immigration Appeal Division in Canada, which enables us to provide fresh evidence of eligibility.
